Coffee enemas

Coffee enemas are a huge part of the Nutritional-Mineral Balancing Program. In-fact my personal opinion is that many health conditions especially those affecting the liver , which is most, will struggle to fully overcome many of their ailments without coffee enemas. This is because many people’s livers are so congested and toxic.

It is quite funny sometimes to explain enemas to new people. You are often met with “yuks” and “ews”. It is a bit of a strange thing to do. If you are not aware of a coffee enema, it is similar to colonic irrigation just with less water. Basically, in simple terms, you insert coffee that has been boiled and then cooled so it is warm into the rectum whilst laying down on your back or side. You then lay there for around 10-20 minutes and then release the coffee solution into the toilet. Yes, I know, it sounds pretty bad. But seriously it’s not as bad as it sounds. And in reality, once you get used to it, it becomes a practice that people cannot live without because it is so calming and healing. In fact, people’s lives have literally been saved by getting them to go and do an enema, it clears you out so well it can lift, even if it’s temporary, a deep depression.

COFFEE ENEMA HISTORY.

Believe it or not coffee enemas have a long history. Not too long ago Max Gerson used them religiously to help cure his patients of cancer. Other Drs in the 1800s used enemas to help with poisoning and you can even find the use of enemas in the Dead Sea Scrolls which dates back over 2000 years. 

BENEFITS OF COFFEE ENEMAS. 

Many people may ask, what are the benefits of coffee enemas? What do they actually do?

You will be surprised at how amazing coffee enemas are for your health, here are a few reasons why we incorporate them into our programs. 

Coffee enemas help remove toxic metals from the large and small intestines, liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas and other organs. As mentioned in the previous sections heavy metals and toxins are a major cause of ill health, and using procedures to enhance the removal of these is very good. 

It helps to kill and eliminate parasites that often find their way into the body. 

By clearing out toxins and stimulating the liver, coffee enemas are able to help alleviate depression, brain fog and conditions that affect the brain. Doing this increases mental clarity, many people may not have experienced this sense of mental clarity for years. 

Coffee enemas help to purify the blood and lymphatic system.

They are very helpful at times for helping people get through a healing reaction. 

They help turn on the parasympathetic nervous system, enabling an individual to feel more calm, relaxed and grounded. 

They help to kill off candida.

It helps eliminate traumas and emotional hangups that a person may be holding onto. 

Coffee enemas have powerful antioxidant effects. The antioxidant chemicals in coffee have a powerful effect upon the liver which is very helpful. 

It increases the Alkalinity of the intestinal tract. This is great because most people’s bodies these days are too acidic. An acidic body harbors cancers and in general, is unhealthy, so to balance this out a more alkaline approach is needed which tends to be more an

Palmitic acid effects. Coffee has palmitic acids (kahweol and cafestrol palmitate). They act as potent enhancers of glutathione S-Transferase, an important liver enzyme. 

Caffeine effects. Caffeine is a mild stimulant, taking coffee rectally is different to drinking it. When taking caffeine rectally it dilates the bile ducts which facilitates toxin release.

Nutritional effects. Coffee has within it, selenium, zinc, and potassium. These minerals are very helpful and only add to the other beneficial effects of coffee enemas. 

Improved hydration- Coffee enemas further hydrate the body which is always beneficial. 

Other benefits are assisting the lymph system, reduced internal organ congestion, reduced autointoxication, and others. 

As I hope you can see, there are many benefits to coffee enemas, once you get a hand of the procedure it’s a very easy process to implement every day. 

PREPARATION

Below is the basic procedure for coffee enemas

When doing coffee enemas its important to be aware of a few things.

1.      Try to do enemas in the morning, although the caffeine enters the system differently from when you drink coffee it can still stimulate you slightly, doing coffee enemas after 4 pm can hinder sleep. You usually get a jittery feeling if you are being stimulated by it.

2.     Sometimes people end up using too much water, or they end up doing too many, only do a maximum 2 per day. If you feel out of sorts you may do more but in general 1-2 per day is a good amount. Sometimes if you are not supplementing with your supplements or are not eating properly it can make you feel uneasy so make sure you are also doing the program to the best of your ability. 

3.     Start off slowly, we like to use 2 tablespoons of coffee per enema. However, this can initially be too stimulatory for some. If this is the case do 1 or half. Some people, just need to do a few water enemas only so they can get used to the enema. If you are super sensitive you can try doing a small amount, around half a teaspoon, and slowly work up over 4-6 months.

4.      Often in the beginning you may see some unsightly things in your feces. You may see parasites in the stool, these often look like long black worms, they are nothing to worry about and need to come out for full healing. Other people see yellow/orange slime. This is an old wall lining in the colon. This has been there for a long time and again needs to come out. Other times you may see liver flukes which are small and white/beige. All of these things are nothing to worry about and it’s actually good they are coming out. 

5.      Some people initially feel cramping and pain in the stomach. This is because the intestines are not used to having liquid inside, they can untwist and expand causing some initial pain. This isn’t anything to worry about but can initially be uncomfortable in the beginning. Shining a red near-infrared heat lamp, the ones we talk about in the sauna section can help to relax the intestines.

MATERIALS

ENEMA KIT. 

Enema kits come in all shapes and sizes, we are not going to go through every single one but we find that the non-toxic, silicone bag-style enema kits tend to be the best. Some people like to use bucket enema kits but the metal bucket generally oxidizes and it’s not ideal for the coffee. 

COFFEE

You want to be looking for the following coffee.

GROUND COFFEE- (You can actually buy beans and grind yourself, it takes longer but it’s generally fresher)

SOUTH AMERICAN COFFEE, PREFERABLY COLUMBIAN

ORGANIC IF POSSIBLE

Store the coffee in the fridge to keep it fresh.

In order to do enemas you will need some good quality water, we prefer spring water or carbon-filtered tap water. In brief however, you can either use spring water or carbon-filtered tap water. Personally, I use carbon-filtered tap water mainly because you use so much water in enemas every day buying spring water for the enemas also is expensive. I just use spring water to drink. 

You will need a saucepan to boil and simmer the coffee. Or a pressure cooker. 

You will also need a little petroleum jelly, vaseline, or other lubricant like olive oil or coconut oil. 

A sieve. 

A hob

INTRODUCTION

1. Start with only a teaspoon of coffee, just in case you are sensitive to it. It is quite common to be sensitive to coffee enemas in the beginning. Although drinking coffee has different effects than taking coffee rectally some people may still be a little sensitive. In these cases starting very slowly and working up is best. 

2. Cleanliness is very important when doing any procedure involving the lower body.  Wash everything carefully with soap and water before and after use.

3. Never force the enema tip into the rectum.  Lubricate it well and move it very slowly and gently, aiming it directly upward from the legs to the body.  Be sure it goes all the way inside until it cannot go further.

4. Never retain the enema if the pressure to release it is too high.  In the beginning, it can be a little shock to the body, you may get cramps and it may feel uncomfortable. This eases with time and practice, however, if this happens to you do not hesitate to release the enema.

6. Before putting coffee inside yourself, always put your finger into the solution and be sure the temperature of the coffee liquid is comfortably warm.  If you cannot keep your finger in it, it is too hot. Make sure it’s not too cold either or this will be uncomfortable, it should be fairly warm but not hot to the touch.

8. We do not recommend using more than about 2 cups of water in the enema.  

10. Doing two coffee enemas, back to back, is extremely powerful.  

11. It is best to do 1-2 enemas per day. When you get comfortable with them doing both back-to-back is best.

12. We find to the optimal time to retain the enema is 20 minutes. 

13. Some clinics or organizations may recommend 3 tablespoons of coffee in one enema.  We find this is too much!  Please use only up to 2 tablespoons of coffee per enema!

14. The best methods to prepare the coffee are:

1. Pressure cook it for 14 seconds.  This means waiting for the pressure to build in the cooker and when it starts steaming set a timer time 14 seconds. 

2. Boil the coffee in a pot for 12 minutes. These produce a stronger and better coffee than other methods of preparing the coffee such as a coffeemaker, percolator, or Keurig machine.

STEP 1. DECIDE WHERE TO DO YOUR COFFEE CLEANSE AND YOUR BODY POSITION

      Here are some guidelines so that you will be warm and comfortable.

1. Body position.  We suggest lying on your back when doing a coffee cleanse.  Some people prefer to lie on their side, or they prefer the ‘doggie’ position – on your hands and knees.  Any of these can work.

However, the reasons for lying on your back are: a) it is relaxing, and b) it is easier to do other procedures in this position.  

It is best to have the hips slightly raised if you can, you can use a pillow, wrapped-up towel, or a slant board. 

3. Location.

A) Many people enjoy lying on a towel or yoga mat on the floor of the bathroom.  This is a good way to begin because if there is a spill, it won’t go far.

B) Some people do their coffee cleanse in the bathtub, especially if they are not too tall.  This is also good to limit accidental spills.

C) Some people set up a cot or massage table to lie upon.

STEP 3. PREPARING THE COFFEE

METHOD #1. The best – pressure cook the coffee for 14 seconds. 

 Place 1 to 2 cups or 250-500 ml. of water in a pressure cooker.

 Two cautions: Do not overcook it by cooking it longer, which is easy.  You must time it for 14 seconds when the pressure cooker starts steaming, it usually takes around 2 minutes for the pressure to build, use the lowest pressure setting on your pressure cooker.

If you use a stovetop pressure cooker, begin timing when the top starts vibrating.  As soon as your timer rings, release the pressure immediately by tilting the vibrating top so the coffee will stop cooking. 

We put a plastic or ceramic mug upside down over the pressure release valve or top to catch the steam that escapes when you tilt the top.

If you use an electric plug-in pressure cooker, the timer usually won’t go down to 14 seconds.  So set it for 5 minutes or the lowest setting.  Get another timer and start timing when the electric timer starts counting.  At 14 seconds, release the steam pressure manually by turning the top release button, and the coffee is ready.

METHOD #2.  The 12-Minute Method.

1. Place 1 to 2 cups or 250-500 ml. of water in a saucepan.  (If you are traveling, you could use a large mug with an immersion heater to boil it.)

2. Add coffee, and bring it to a boil.  When you start doing coffee enemas, use much less coffee, to make sure you tolerate it well.  For example, begin with just a half teaspoon of coffee and increase the amount when you are sure you tolerate it well.  Then work up to about one to two tablespoons of coffee. 

The amount of coffee.  The exact amount of coffee needed varies from person to person.  You should not feel jittery from a coffee enema.  Reduce the amount of coffee if you feel jittery.

If you use a coffeemaker, you will need a little more coffee because the coffee will be weaker.

3. When the water and coffee boil, turn down the burner and allow it to boil slowly.  Set a timer for 12 minutes.  Turn it off when the timer rings.

STEP 4. GETTING THE TEMPERATURE RIGHT

The ideal coffee temperature.  For an enema, coffee must be about body temperature or a little lower.

Testing the coffee temperature.  To test the temperature of your coffee, place a finger in it.  It should be a comfortably warm temperature.  If the water is too hot or very cold, retaining the enema will be more difficult. If it is too hot it can be dangerous so please always test the solution with your finger.

Cooling down your coffee.  Here are simple ways to cool down hot coffee:

1. Trick: Put half the amount of water that you will use for your enema in the pressure cooker or pot.  Put the other half in a measuring cup at room temperature.

When the coffee is ready, pour the hot liquid into the cooler, room temperature liquid and the resulting mixture will be at the right temperature for your enema. This is the best method, I usually add around 1.5 cups of water into a pressure cooker or pan, boil the coffee and then pour that coffee through a sieve into a glass jug. I then top up the solution with cold water until I get about 2 cups of solution, I keep testing the temperature with my finger until I get it right. 

2. Place the container in which you cook the coffee in a cold location for a few minutes, such as in the freezer or on a cold floor, perhaps.  Be sure to put it on a trivet or plate to protect the area from the hot saucepan.

3. Add an ice cube or two to the hot liquid.  Use good-quality water to make the ice cubes.

Making extra coffee to save time. Although fresh is best, to save time you can make enough coffee for two days worth of enemas.  Put the extra coffee in the refrigerator as soon as possible.

STEP 5. PREPARING TO TAKE THE ENEMA

A. Set up your enema bag or bucket.  Here are the steps:

1) Make sure everything is clean.

2) Connect the clamp to the hose near one end of the hose. Some enema clamps/hoses work differently. 

3) Attach the enema tip, which is a small plastic tube, to the end of the hose that has the clamp nearby.  The closer the clamp is to the enema tip, the cleaner the enema is liable to be.  (Most enema bags and buckets come with two tips.  The thinner one is for an enema, while the larger, thicker one is for douching.)

4) Attach the other end of the hose to the screw-on closure for the enema bag.  If you are using an enema bucket, this end of the hose attaches directly to a tube that comes out of the bucket. 

B. Pour the coffee into the enema bag or bucket, making sure you remove the coffee grounds from the liquid.

Three ways to remove the coffee grounds are 1) decanting, 2) using coffee filter paper, or 3) using a fine strainer.  To decant, pour the coffee liquid slowly into your enema bag or enema bucket, and the grounds should stay behind. I prefer to use a fine strainer and strain the coffee into a jug before pouring it into the enema bag.

Alternatively, you can strain the coffee liquid through a fine strainer or coffee filter paper into the clean enema bag or bucket.

C. If you are using an enema bag, screw on the top of the enema bag.  Be sure the plastic hose is fastened tightly onto the enema bag and the thin enema tip is attached to the other end.

E. Remove air from the enema tube.  This is an important step if you use an enema bag, but is usually not needed if you use an enema bucket.  To remove the air from the tube you can place the jug you used to put the coffee in the enema bag on the floor. Then put the enema tube into the jug and open the clamp/valve. This will let out some coffee but also any trapped air. Its important to remove trapped air because any air inside the colon can be uncomfortable.

F. Lubricate the enema tip with a small amount of petroleum jelly, Vaseline, soap, olive oil, coconut oil, or shaving cream.  Vaseline or petroleum jelly works very well, although is a little greasy.

Many people like a natural shaving cream such as Kiss My Face brand.  Soap or shaving cream can work well and cleans up easily.  You may experiment to see how much and what kind of lubrication is best for you.

G. If possible, clean out the colon before doing your enema.  This is not required, but it has several benefits:

– It will often make the enema easier to retain.  This is because it expels gas and fecal material that make enemas more difficult to hold.

– The enema will be more powerful. If there is fecal matter in the colon, the fecal matter will absorb some of the coffee and this weakens the enema.

Two methods to empty the colon are:

1. Do a quick plain tap water enema to clean the colon before your coffee enema.  We recommend just doing one of these, and use only about a cup of water.  (Some people like to do several plain water enemas before they do a coffee enema to clean the colon.  This is too much exposure to water.  It could make the body more yin, which is not good.)

2. Have a bowel movement.  To help do this:

– relax

– drink water before your enema.

– eat a tablespoon of almond butter before your enema.  It often works better than eating other food.

– rub the right calf area while sitting on the toilet

– sometimes rubbing and twisting the right pinky toe will cause a bowel movement.

STEP 6. DOING THE ENEMA

Hang the bag or bucket.  With the clamp closed, hang the bag or bucket one to three feet above your abdomen.  If you have no place to hang it from, you can place it on the floor or bed next to you and you can hold it up to let the coffee flow in.

Inserting the tip. 

Position for inserting the coffee.  Many people prefer lying on their back.  You can lie on one side.  Some people use the doggie position – on one hand and knees.  A few are on their knees and on one elbow with the butt in the air.  The latter positions are somewhat less relaxing.

Make sure there is plenty of lubrication near the end of the enema tip.  Rub the tip around the anal opening first to lubricate the entire area.

Then this author likes to press the side of the tip against the sphincter first.  As the sphincter yields, aim the tip straight upwards toward the body from the legs, not at any angle.  Twist or turn the enema tip gently as you insert it, as this can make it slide in much easier.

Make sure the enema tip goes all the way in.  The enema tip must go in at least two inches or there will be a mess.  Never leave it half way in – it will not work this way.  There are two anal sphincters it must pass through, so the tip must be in all the way.

Letting the coffee go in.  Once the tip is all the way in, open the clamp and hold or hang the enema bag or bucket above the abdomen.  The coffee may take a few seconds to begin flowing. 

If the coffee does not flow when you open the clamp.  First, look for kinks in the hose and get rid of them.  If that doesn’t fix the problem, sometimes the enema tip has to be moved around because something is blocking it.  Rarely, a coffee ground will block the tube.  For the latter problem, you can squeeze the bag or the hose to get the coffee to flow.

An excellent idea is to mentally encourage or allow the coffee to flow into your body.  You can just visualize it entering, cleansing and healing the body. 

If you develop a cramp as you are putting the coffee inside.  Close the hose clamp and take a few deep breaths.  Perhaps roll your hips a little to the right and then a little to the left.  In most cases, the cramp will pass quickly. 

However, if the pressure is too great, get up and release the enema.  You can always start over.  If you have emptied the colon before doing the enema, cramps will occur less often.

Portable toilets.  If you are worried about reaching the toilet in time to expel the coffee without making a mess, a good idea is to keep a portable toilet handy.  This can be just a small bucket.  Medical supply stores also sell a bucket with a toilet seat on top. 

Keep this right next to you wherever you do your enema.  If you must expel the coffee quickly, you can just move over to the portable toilet and expel the coffee very quickly.

When all the liquid is inside.  You will know because the enema bag will become flat or you can see that the bucket is fairly empty.  Close the clamp.  You can leave the tube inserted, or gently remove it and store the bag or bucket safely. 

Intestinal gas: If you have a lot of intestinal gas, definitely leave the enema tip inside of you and leave the clamp open.  The intestinal gas will tend to flow out through the enema tip.  Otherwise, you may not be able to hold the enema. 

Turning to your right side.  Once all the coffee is inside you, turn on to your right side for about 30 seconds.  Then turn again onto your back.

This causes the coffee to flow from the descending colon into the transverse colon and even somewhat into the ascending colon.  It definitely enhances the enema.  It can also make it easier to hold the enema.

STEP 7. WHAT TO DO WHILE HOLDING YOUR ENEMA

Excellent ways to spend the 20 minutes of the enema are:

1. When you first put the coffee in, do a basic spinal twist, lifting one leg and swinging it across the other leg all the way to the floor.  Then do the other leg.

You can do a few other Spinal Twists such as popping the knees and toes, and perhaps kicking the feet and twisting the hands.  These are very good to do when you first put the coffee in.  They align the spine, relax the body and assist with development.

2. Do the Pulling Down Procedure.  This is the best thing to do during coffee enemas for most people because most do not do this exercise nearly enough.

You will find this superb and extremely important procedure much easier to do while you are doing an enema provided you lie comfortably flat on your back.  It is easy to do deep breathing at the same time.

3. The enhanced enema.  You can enhance your coffee enemas by pressing or beating or slapping lightly on your feet (reflexology) at the same time that you are holding coffee inside. This can definitely cause more detoxification.  In particular, press firmly on several areas:

a. The liver area on the right foot and the liver/spleen area on the left foot.  These are on the bottom of the feet, below the second, third, fourth and fifth toes and extending almost halfway down the foot toward the heel. The liver area is on the right foot, while the spleen area is on the left foot.

You can press firmly on the liver and spleen organ areas.  Another method is to close your fist and tap or beat lightly on the liver and spleen areas with the flat part of the middle part of your curled up fingers. This is another reflexology technique that is also very helpful.

Another method is to slap the area with an open palm of your hand.  These motions help the organ areas of the feet and hands.

b. The liver and kidney energy channels or meridians, on both feet. The liver meridian is located in between the big toe and the second toe on the top of the foot, in the webbing. It also extends back, toward the ankle, all the way to the ankle bones on the top of the foot. Just press hard between the first and second metatarsal bones all the way back to the ankle.

4. Move the coffee inside the colon to the top (upper surface) of the transverse colon.  This is the brain reflex area of the colon.  This will cause more healing in the brain.

To do this, either elevate your hips above your waist with a towel or pillow, or tilt the bed or table you are lying on so your head is lower than your feet, or slap your abdomen so that the coffee splashes on the top of the transverse colon.

5. Do an Oral Coffee Hold.  This is a powerful procedure that helps coffee to reach your teeth, ears, sinuses and head.  It is excellent if you have health conditions affecting these areas.  The coffee hold is easy to do during a coffee enema because there is always a little coffee left in the enema bag or bucket and this is all that is needed.

After putting the coffee into the colon, elevate the enema tip above the enema bag or bucket.  Open the hose clamp and allow the coffee remaining in the hose to flow back into the enema bag or bucket.

Then either open the enema bag and put the small amount of coffee in it in your mouth or pour the coffee left in the bucket into you mouth and hold for 15-30 minutes. 

This method may seem unclean, but it is not.  The leftover coffee has not touched or entered your body.  Nor has it touched the enema tip.

6. Do Red Heat Lamp Therapy on your abdomen.  Position a red heat lamp so it shines on your abdomen or your legs.  The area it shines upon must be unclothed so the rays penetrate the skin.

7. Do a Kelp Wrap.  The procedure is to rub the kelp on yourself first, leaving the buttocks without kelp to make doing the enema easier.  Then do the enema.

8. Do a Vibrasound session.  This requires a Vibrasound table or a loudspeaker or transducer under the table or bed where you are doing the enema.  Turning up the volume of certain music will vibrate the organs.  This is a research area at this time (2021).

9. Do psychodrama.  This is more unusual.  However, some women report that one can use a coffee enema to simulate a rape situation to help retrace the trauma.  One has to be unclothed, with arms above the head and legs spread.

More can also be done, but the above is the most important.  Putting the body in this position can help recall a rape and by doing so, help one retrace the trauma.

10. Just rest.  However, doing one or more of the activities above is better.

11. Other. One can listen to the radio or to music.  Once in a while, the author has carried on a telephone conversation during a coffee enema.  However, this is not as therapeutic.

We know the above combinations may seem overwhelming, so just try them one at a time.  The pulling down exercise is the most important.  Combining can save time.

Avoid the following activities during an enema.  We do not recommend walking around the house with the coffee inside.  We also do not recommend reading or other intense activities.  Falling asleep is not good because you may spill the coffee.  If you are very tired, nap first before doing the enema.

EXPELLING THE COFFEE

Please try to lay down for atleast 10-20 minutes, 20minutes is ideal for retaining the coffee. In the beginning, there may be times when you struggle to hold it in. Most of the reasons are that the body just isn’t used to the procedure, so the stomach can cramp and you may have to expel the coffee. Most of this just takes time, after doing quite a few of the enemas you will be able to hold it for longer. You want to make sure the room is warm, I use a space heater to warm up my bathroom area, and I also find that leaving the space heater on whilst I expel the coffee as it makes it easier to do so. 

Sometimes you cannot expel the coffee well, usually this is because you are dehydrated. Other people find that using something like a squatty potty to raise the level of your feet so you are in a more squatted position whilst expelling the coffee is useful. 

Other techniques is gentle massaging on the stomach. Visualising the enema being expelled can often help. Rubbing the back of your right knee can help. 

If the coffee is not expelled well do not worry about it, you can get up and go about your business. Sometimes after walking around, you may get the urge to go to the toilet if the enema was not expelled well, you can then go and expel the coffee. 

HOW OFTEN TO DO ENEMAS. 

It is best to do an enema every day if you can, and even better is to do 2 back to back enemas (one after another). If you do more than 2 enemas per day this tends to unbalance people a little by lowering people’s blood sugar so the ideal is 1 or 2 per day. 

ENHANCEMENTS

There are a few ways to enhance your coffee enema procedure. They are quite powerful and can definitely move healing forward quicker. 

1. Garlic enema, you can add 1-3 small garlic cloves to the coffee enema solution before it gets boiled. It is best to crush the garlic cloves using a garlic press.
2. Shine a red heat lamp on your stomach. When you are doing the coffee enema you can shine a reddish 250watt red heat lamp on your stomach, this is quite powerful, it helps you feel more calm, it helps kill off candida, it helps the coffee solution stimulate the bile ducts and much more.
3. Add reflexology, if you can reach, rub the feet whilst doing an enema, the liver and kidney areas are at the bottom of the right foot and the liver/spleen and kidney areas on the left foot.

ENEMAS AND HEALING REACTIONS

Enemas often at some point will cause healing reactions in people. As talked about in the detoxification section. It’s important to note whether you feel strange after doing an enema. There have been many times where people have called me up complaining that they think something is not working, I then ask when did this happen, and usually they say after an enema. If this happens this is a very powerful sign that the enema has started a small healing reaction. 

When people first begin coffee enemas they can have some powerful reactions, often people’s depression can improve, and their brain may feel like it’s being ‘cleared out’.

The most common reactions start with headaches, brain fog, tiredness, and malaise.
